Bernie Acaster – Care Coordinator

Hi, my name is Bernie and my role at NCCN is Care Coordinator. I began working for NCCN in 2002 as a support worker in the community, gaining experience in all aspects of care from domiciliary care through to more complex care such as supporting individuals who require additional support with the use of machinery for example cough assistance, ventilator, tracheostomy etc. Gaining this knowledge and experience allowed me the opportunity to see the value in giving individuals the options of remaining in their own homes and promoting their independence and dignity in care.

Within my role as Care Coordinator, I support my team of support workers on a daily basis through consistency of rotas, regular supervision and reviews. I work alongside family members, Social Services and other professionals to ensure the highest quality of care is offered to each individual within the service. I believe in having an open and strong communication line with all parties involved so we can continuously review and improve the services offered.

The aspect of my role I enjoy most is having open lines of communication to allow and support individuals within the service to make and achieve the requests in regard to their care. Additionally, I enjoy working with my team of support workers as they have an excellent team ethic and pull together to ensure every service user is receiving the best possible care.
